Sudoku For Kids

Sudoku is a great Japanese number puzzle that is taking the US by storm. If you look in your newspaper you will probably find Sudoku puzzles right next to the crossword. I had heard of it but never done one until recently. My nephew had a book of it and showed what it was all about.

I bought Kyle, who is 5, a Sponge Bob Sudoku book for the airplane ride home. It had stickers with images to put down instead of writing numbers. He absolutely loved it, and it kept him very busy and focused for well over half the ride. Of course as soon as he finished the book he wanted another one and as I’m not keen on buying book after book I looked around on the internet for an alternative.

I found this great site called The Daily Sudoku . If you go into the archives you can print off old publications and they are ranked easy, medium, hard. I started Kyle on the easy ones and he quickly moved onto the medium. He’s still working on mastering the bigger puzzle that uses 6 digits but he just loves them. Our new morning routine is we each print out a Sudoku and sit down and work on them together. Pat has even been sucked into it. It really is a great way to have your children work on their logic and reasoning skills.
